LED indicators, also known as pilot lights, are illuminated electro-mech components with the purpose to show the status of a function. The Bright and clear illumination of LED indicators is essential to provide instant visual feedback.
Resembling push buttons without the typical momentary or latching function, LED indicators are typically constructed of plastic or metal materials. These indicators are specifically designed to visually signal changes or errors through the illumination of LEDs. The LED colours may vary to indicate different statuses, providing a quick and intuitive way to convey information to users.
Widely utilised in various industries including Medical, automotive, industrial control panels, broadcasting, marine, and boat building, these components are commonly found in both domestic and commercial appliances.

What are LED indicators used for?
Industrial Equipment: LED indicators find extensive use in industrial equipment and machinery to denote operational states, error codes, and maintenance alerts, aiding operators in monitoring and troubleshooting the equipment effectively.
Consumer Electronics: LED indicators are visible in a variety of consumer electronics, such as audio equipment, smart home devices, where they serve as power indicators.
Medical: LED indicators play a crucial role in medical environments and devices due to their efficiency, brightness, and versatility. In medical settings, LED indicators can be used to signal important alerts, display vital information, or indicate the status of equipment or devices. For example, in hospital equipment such as monitors, diagnostic devices, or infusion pumps.
Audio & Broadcast: In audio equipment such as mixers, amplifiers, and recording devices, LED indicators are utilised to provide visual feedback on signal strength, levels, and operation statuses. Helping broadcasters to easily track the performance and operation of broadcasting systems.
IP Rated LEDs
Our LED indicators are IP rated (from the front) which means that our LED indicators are sealed and protected against water to different degrees. Making them durable in a range of conditions.
For more information on IP Ratings, see our blog post.
IP65 | Dust tight, protected against water projected from a nozzle |
IP66 | Dust tight and protected against powerful water jets |
IP67 | Dust tight and protected against water immersion for 30 minutes between depths of 150mm to 1000mm |
IP68 | Dust tight and protected against continuous water immersion |
Illuminated Options
Our panel mount indicators both plastic and metal options, are available with single or bi-colour LED illumination. Certain indicator series also offer the option of RGB LED.
Our panel LED indicators can provide fully illuminated displays, split-screen displays, or dual-colour LED illumination.
Single LED | Component only displays single colour LED. |
Bi-colour LED | A component that allows two colours in a single LED, this means the colour will change from one to the other but not display together. |
RGB LED | Component with a combination of 3 LEDs in just one package. Enabling almost any colour to be produced by combining the 3 colours (red, green, blue). |
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, LED indicators are versatile and essential components in various industries, including medical, audio, broadcast, and many others. Their efficiency, brightness, and flexibility make them invaluable in providing visual cues, signaling critical alerts, and conveying important information effectively. From enhancing user experience and improving operational efficiency to contributing to safety and precision, LED indicators continue to play a vital role in modern-day applications. Incorporating LED indicators into equipment and devices not only enhances functionality but also elevates the overall user experience, making them an integral part of the technology landscape.
