Home Automation
What is Home Automation?
Home Automation is the automatic control of electronic appliances/systems in your home, usually monitored and controlled from a central ‘smart home’ hub. In order for appliances to be automated, they have to have a wireless radio signal, but many of these appliances and systems also have internet access capabilities.
It is becoming increasingly popular for systems in the home such as lighting, temperature/climate and entertainment to be automated, as well as home security and alarm systems.
The user interface of the automation/smart home hub is typically accessed via either wall-mounted terminals, or with applications on computers, tablets or mobile phones. Web interfaces may also be accessible off-site through the Internet.

Which Switches Are Used in Home Automation?
When choosing switches for home appliances, it is crucial to check the amperage of the switch to make sure that it is suitable for the appliance, especially with larger machines.
Here are just some of the components we offer that can be used in Home Automation applications:
This multifunctional Programmable Navigation Switch features a 1.28″ LCD display with a controllable backlight, plus a rotary encoder and push button function. It is a low profile switch and has an SPI interface and an IP65 rating (from the front).
The RJS-SDE-2 can be used to navigate and control a wide range of systems. For example, you could use it as a thermostat to control the heating in your home.
Rocker and Toggle Switches are some of the most commonly used switches, and are normally implemented to turn a device on and off.
We have a variety of rocker and toggle switches available, in both plastic and metal. We also offer LED illuminated rocker switches, and custom legends can be added.
Tactile Switches are another versatile type of switch that can be used in many applications. These switches are small and compact, with a ‘clicky’ feedback so that the user knows when the operation is being carried out.
We have over 50 types of illuminated and non-illuminated tact switches, with attributes including; surface mount types (SMD/SMT), straight (vertical) orientation and right angle (horizontal) orientation.
This OLED Display Push Button Switch features a 0.42″, 72*40 pixel high-resolution display. It is fully programmable, with an I2C interface, and has a smooth, silent function.
Because of its programmable function and compact size, the RJS-SLC is ideal for uses in high-end and smart tech systems, such as home automation applications.
Navigation Switches are commonly used when a system or piece of equipment needs to be controlled by hand, and they allow the operator to navigate up, down, left or right. We also have a range of more complex switches, for example the RJSSF66BA-Z (pictured here) can have up to 9 keys and is programmable with an SPI interface.
We have a wide range of panel mount navigation switches that can support LED illumination and custom etching to suit your design.
The RJS-RS004 is a panel mount rotary switch with a central push button function. It can be customised to your specific project, with optional tactile feedback, multiple cap colours and LED illumination options. Custom legends can also be etched onto the cap of the switch.
