Touchless Switches are switches that use a proximity sensor to activate without the need for physical contact.
The key features of contactless switches are:
Infrared sensor
Timer delay
Momentary function
Proximity switch
No touch button
Bi-colour illumination
Easy to install with no programming required
The RJS-TLSW-0 features ring LED illumination to indicate its status. When the device/operation is on standby the switch will show a blue illumination (drawing 30mA), and when it is activated the LED will turn green (drawing 50mA). This switch can be ordered alone or mounted onto a plate.
What is an infrared sensor?
Our touchless switches use an invisible beam of infrared light to detect when an object (i.e. a hand) is placed in front of the switch. The standard sensing distance for this is 0-10cm, but you can select the ‘sensitive’ sensing distance of 3-15cm if needed.
We have included some guides below to help you decide on the design, IP rating and settings of the touchless switches for your project.

What are the benefits of touchless switches?
A key benefit of no-touch switches is the hygiene aspect. Research suggests that up to 80% of infectious illnesses are spread through contact with contaminated surfaces, so reducing the need to touch switches/controls will therefore reduce the chances of cross-contamination. The flat surface of contactless buttons also means that they are easier to keep clean.
Are they reliable?
No-touch switches are more reliable than other mechanical switches because they have less moving parts. And as our touchless switches have an anodised aluminium casing, they are also more robust and long-lasting than switches made from other materials.
The standard RJS-TLSW-0 is rated IP40 for indoor use, but you can request the outdoor version which is IP68 rated against dust and water. This means that the switches will be less prone to issues over time caused by damage from objects/water getting inside (dependent on rating).
Applications
Contactless switches are most beneficial in applications/areas where there is a high volume of traffic, or in settings where they will be used most frequently by vulnerable people.
Some examples of applications include:
Lifts/Elevators
Public Restrooms
Door Opening Systems
Retail Spaces
Hospital Systems/Equipment
Doctors Surgeries/Clinics
Care Facilities
Laboratories
Food Preparation Areas
In Summary
Touchless switches are an ideal solution if you need a button that will be used in a busy environment, and in locations where there are a higher number of sick or vulnerable people. Contact our experienced Sales Engineers to find out more about how touchless switches can enhance your project.
