At RJS Electronics, we offer a range of switches and components that are available with RGB LEDs. But what does RGB actually mean and what makes it more appealing than regular LEDs?
We’ve put together our top three reasons why you should choose RGB Switches for your next project.
What is an RGB LED?
The acronym RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue. Hence, an RGB LED is a component that contains 3 LEDs (or Light-Emitting Diodes) within a clear lens; one red, one green and one blue.
The light that these LEDs emits can combine to create over 16 million different colours and hues when the intensity of each diode is adjusted. For example, increasing the brightness of the red and green whilst decreasing the blue will make a yellow hue, and boosting the blue and red whilst dimming the green will create a purple hue.
The model that is used to combine colours in RGB LEDs is known as ‘additive’. This is because wavelengths of different coloured light are added together to create a new colour. When all the colours are mixed together it creates a white light.
Why choose RGB Switches?
1. Aesthetics
The first and most immediately obvious benefit of RGB switches is that they are more aesthetically pleasing than single or bi-colour LED switches and can offer a much wider scope for product design.
With an almost endless array of colours to select from with RGB LEDs, they are incredibly versatile and allow you to be a lot more precise and unique with customisation. For example, you could configure your LED switches to match your company’s branding, or change up the colours when you get bored!
2. Energy Efficiency
RGB LEDs are better for saving energy than alternative options, as they do not require much energy at all to run and have a very low heat output. This in turn reduces the wear and tear of the components, so they have a very long lifespan whilst maintaining their brightness and colour regardless of age.
Additionally, a longer lifespan and lower energy usage will save you money in the long run, as it will lower energy bills and you shouldn’t need to replace components as often.
3. Monitoring
Utilising components with RGB LEDs can help you to monitor your systems. With such a wide spectrum of colours available, you can select different colours to signal different operational statuses or even to alert you to a fault in the system. This will therefore make it easier to evaluate your systems and how they are working at a glance.
By alerting you to any problems or faults, these RGB LEDs can also contribute towards increasing the overall safety of your systems and processes by providing an advanced signal of an issue before it becomes unsafe.
Our RGB Switches
Anti-Vandal Push Buttons
Our anti-vandal push button switches are some of our most popular products, as they are designed to be very resistant to excessive use or damage, whilst offering an aesthetically pleasing design.
All of our anti-vandals have an IP65 rating or above, plus you can select from a variety of sizes, materials and illumination styles, including RGB illumination. Custom symbols can also be added to further expand the design possibilities.
Navigation Switches
Our range of navigation switches and modules are designed to allow you to control and navigate a system that needs to be controlled by hand. We have LED illuminated multi-key push button switches and joystick style switches, as well as full programmable digital navigation switches.
The RJS-SDE-2 features a 240RGB LCD display with an SPI interface, a rotary encoder and a push button function.
PCB Push Buttons
We have both tactile and silent PCB push buttons that are available with RGB illumination. We offer these switches in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and styles, and by selecting RGB illuminated options, you can customise your switch/device designs even further.
Our high quality LED PCB components are particularly popular in audio & broadcast applications, though they are versatile enough to suit a large scope of uses.
RJS-SBA
Whilst not strictly a switch, the RJS-SBA indicator is one of our newest RGB products and can be controlled using one of our LED encoder switches. It features 24 programmable RGB+IC LEDs in a ring, with a choice of segmented or gradual illumination and various markings.
This high quality indicator is sure to add a unique, polished finish to any project you choose to use it for.
Conclusion
Selecting RGB switches for your project will not only help you to stand out and make your design unique, but can also support you to improve your overall safety procedures and energy efficiency.
